Dietrich Wagler studied in Dresden, Halle and Weimar. In 1974 he won the improvisation competition of the Thüringer Bachtage. After a period as organist of the Gottfried-Silbermann organ in the Georgenkirche in Glauchau, Saxony, Wagler was appointed organist, choirmaster and church music co-ordinator of the Dom in Freiberg, where he served from 1986-2001. During this period he was responsible for the monumental Silbermann organ of 1714. Dietrich Wagler has performed as a soloist in various countries, and has recorded for radio and T.V., as well as performing on a number of CD releases. He teaches improvisation and organ at the ‘Hochschule für Kirchenmusik’ in Dresden. Dietrich Wagler has been president of the Gottfried Silbermann Gesellschaft since November 1996, and, since 1999, Artistic Director of ECHO (European Cities of Historic Organs) in Freiberg.
