Grand Prix d'ECHO

Three of the member cities of ECHO (European  Cities of Historic Organs) Akmaar, Freiberg, and Innsbruck, are working together to organise the first Grand Prix d'ECHO

 

The prize winners of the International Schnitger Organ Competition in  Alkmaar in 2009, the Silbermann Competition in Freiberg in 2009 and  the Hofhaimer Competition in Innsbruck in 2010 will receive the invitation to compete for the Grand Prix d'ECHO which will be held  in Alkmaar during Orgelfestival Holland 2011. All three of these competitions are  noted for their exclusive use of historic organs, and for their  emphasis on the performance of early music.

 

The winner of the Grand Prix d'ECHO will receive the title of "ECHO Young Organist of the Year" and will be invited to perform at  the various festivals of the ECHO member cities.

The invited prizewinners at present are:

The 3 finalists of Alkmaar:          Bart Jacobs (Belgium) first prize  
  Michael Unger                (Canada) second prize  
  David Boos (Austria)         third prize  
The 5 finalists of Freiberg:          Gilles Leyers (Luxembourg)    first prize  
  David Schlaffke (Germany) second prize  
  Gijs Boelen (Netherlands) third prize  
  Charlotte Marck (France)    
  Magdalena Hasibeder (Switzerland)    
The finalists of Innsbruck:     will be announced on 9 September 2010      
The Competition

All the rounds in the Grote Sint Laurenskerk and Kapelkerk will be open to the public.

 

Approximately two months before the competition the candidates will be able to familiarize themselves with both the Grote Sint Laurenskerk organs during a specially organised weekend.

 

The Jury

The performances of the twelve candidates will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of the artistic directors of the 10 ECHO cities:

Jean Ferrard (Brussels), Dietrich Wagler (Freiberg), Maurizio Croci (Fribourg), Karin Nelson (Göteborg), Reinhard Jaud (Innsbruck), Joao Vaz (Lisbon), Jan-Willem Jansen (Toulouse), Roberto Antonello, Andrea Marcon (Treviso, Andrea Marcon will only be present at the Final), Per Bonsaken (Trondheim), Pieter van Dijk, Frank van Wijk (Alkmaar).

Prizes:

Grand Prix d'ECHO

The winner of this competition will receive, in addition to the below mentioned first prize of 

€ 5.000,- , the title "Young ECHO-organist of the Year" and will be offered concerts during the festivals of the ECHO-cities.

1st prize: € 5.000,-

2nd prize: € 2.500,-

3rd prize: € 1.000,-

Application

Application for the 9th International Schnitger Orgelconcours is not possible as the candidates for this competition are predetermined as the finalists of International Schnitger Organ Competition in  Alkmaar in 2009, the Silbermann Competition in Freiberg in 2009 and  the Hofhaimer Competition in Innsbruck in 2010.

 

 

Young organists, born after 15 June 1977, can apply from the 1st of October 2012 until the 31st of January 2013 for the 10th International Schnitger Orgelconcours that will take place in Alkmaar in the month of June 2013 .
